Meet the Sharks: Latest Marinade NFT collection on Solana is live!

Marinade’s Chef NFT Limited Edition, all 3,333 Octopuses, has officially been minted out.

That means it’s time to introduce the next generation of Marinade Chefs to the Solana NFT ecosystem.

Step aside, Octopuses, and make way for the Sharks!

Marinade’s very own artist Elli, who created Marinade’s new brand that launched at the beginning of 2022, as well as the limited edition Octopus collection, designed the Sharks.

Sharks are fierce, fair and friendly, perfect for representing our governance. If you’re very lucky you might mint a chemist or party shark. If you’re even luckier, you might mint the gardener, and the level five version of that one contains… yeah, I won’t spoil it but it is definitely worth the upgrade! The Shark NFTs feature all the same governance powers as the Octopus NFTs. What ultimately matters for mDAO governance is how much total MNDE is locked within the NFTs themselves.

Rarities of the Shark NFT

While there are only 3,333 Limited Edition Octopus Chef NFTs, the Sharks collection has 1.8 million varieties. The Sharks will mint until the Master Chefs make the decision to introduce a new animal, or all varieties are exhausted. There will be more shark attributes to mint compared to the octopuses, including double the amount of body types, three additional background colors and two more background patterns.

How to mint a Shark

You can now mint Shark NFTs at the  Marinade.Finance website under the MNDE tab.

Please be advised that there are scam sites out there. Do not visit any variations of the Marinade URL or click on any advertisements for Marinade in Google search or elsewhere. You can find official links in all our handles.

When you decide to unlock your tokens, you will have to return to the MNDE page and initiate a 30-day unlocking period. Return after 30 days and you will be able to burn the NFT and get the MNDE back to your wallet.

Leveling up a Chef NFT

You can always level up your Chef by feeding more MNDE to the NFT and to grow it a level. Have a Level 1 Shark (or Octopus) you love? You can then add more MNDE to it and it will automatically re-generate to the next level holding all the same attributes (though some attributes are enhanced when they grow).

Combining Solana NFTs, governance and DeFi utility

Since the Chef NFTs marked the beginning  on-chain governance  at Marinade, there have been over 20 proposals voted on by NFT holders ranging from budgeting and product considerations, to more contentious debates over liquidity mining gauges and pools.

As the Solana NFT community has exploded over the last year, utility and connection with the DeFi ecosystem and DAO governance have also matured. Marinade’s NFT features innovative DAO governance utility using not only on-chain proposals but two types of gauges.

Keep in mind that all Chef NFTs in the same wallet must vote one way on proposals. However, you can use your collective locked MNDE to vote in the validator and liquidity mining gauges, using the weights to vote for multiple validators or liquidity pools.

With the Master Chefs currently working to upgrade the mDAO governance platform, expect even bigger and more robust utility to come to the Marinade Chefs very soon. Stay tuned!
